Antigua and Barbuda Pays Tribute to Fallen Servicemen and Women
Wreath-laying, prayers and military honours mark a solemn tribute to those who served and died in the two World Wars.
Antigua and Barbuda honoured those who served and lost their lives in the First and Second World Wars during its annual Remembrance Sunday observance on November 8.
National officials, members of the armed forces, uniformed organisations and other representatives gathered at the War Memorial on Independence Avenue in St John’s for the solemn ceremony.
Wreath-laying, prayers and military honours formed part of the commemoration, reflecting the nation’s gratitude for those whose service helped secure the freedoms enjoyed today.
The observance also recognised the contributions of Antiguans, Barbudans and other Caribbean nationals who travelled thousands of miles from home to serve during the two conflicts.
The red poppy, traditionally worn as a symbol of remembrance, underscored the sacrifice of the fallen and the continuing importance of peace.
Remembrance Day falls on November 11, while this year’s Remembrance Sunday was observed on November 8.
