Forecasters warn of both rain and coastal hazards for Antigua and Barbuda in the coming days

A weather system is bringing varied conditions to the twin-island state of Antigua and Barbuda today, with forecasters warning of both rainfall and hazardous coastal conditions through Friday morning.

The bout of weather brought over an inch of rain to many parts of Antigua in the past 24 hours.

While Antigua faces mostly cloudy skies and showers throughout Thursday, Barbuda has a 50 percent chance of precipitation during the day, increasing to 60 percent tonight. Antigua’s shower chances decrease to 30 percent overnight.

Maritime conditions have become hazardous, with a high surf advisory now in effect.
Northerly swells are reaching up to 6 feet around Barbuda and 5 feet near Antigua’s coastline, creating dangerous conditions for coastal and near-coastal gently sloping shorelines.

While weekend rain chances are expected to drop below 40 percent, Thursday’s temperatures will peak at 86°F (30°C), dropping to 72°F (22°C) overnight.
January’s rainfall total stands at 0.74 inches, not yet including today’s precipitation.
