The French national who was badly injured in a hit-and-run accident in Antigua and Barbuda some time ago is reportedly recovering well.

On June 4^th this year, William Nouy, from Guadeloupe was knocked down in Falmouth Harbour Marina. The man was on the island participating in the annual Antigua and Barbuda Sports Fishing Tournament.

He was first treated at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre (SLBMC), following the accident but had to be airlifted back to his home country for further medical care. Nouy remained in a coma for several weeks after the accident, with family members worried that he won’t recover.

But now there is good news coming from the neighboring island that Nouy is making so much progress and even speaking normally. Health care professionals there say he has been speaking normally and it appears his memory is returning. They claimed however that he has no recollection of the accident.

“He is also starting to eat a bit by mouth, but he is still being fed through a stomach tube. He is also struggling to move his left arm and right leg, but doctors are reportedly confident that that movement will return with physical therapy,” according to a family member.

Meanwhile, the motorist who struck Nouy that fateful night – Katja Geisler of Jolly Harbour – was charged with dangerous driving and leaving the scene of an accident.

She was granted $20,000 bail with a $2,000 cash component; her passport was confiscated and she was ordered to sign in at her nearest police station three days a week.

Geisler is due to return to court on October 13.
