A woman who has been a well-known drug trafficker was intercepted while boarding a flight from Guyana to the United States.

According to the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU), “59-year-old Unique Sunshine London was allegedly attempting to board a flight at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) on Wednesday when she was stopped and her luggage was searched”

CANU said they allegedly found several packages of cocaine concealed as caramel wafers and biscuits.

Lawmen said the drugs weighed 11.188kgs and had a street value of US$336,000.

The woman was arrested and charged. But she was not the only one behind the drug bust.  CANU said they also arrested a man identified as Dhanraj Deochand after their investigations revealed he allegedly checked-in luggage for London.

Meanwhile, another man was arrested as he was attempting to smuggle six finches out of Guyana.

The birds, which are prized in New York’s Caribbean American community for their singing abilities, were hidden in hair rollers.
