CARICOM leaders are again calling on Russia to end its invasion of Ukraine, saying that it is negatively affecting the global economy.
Leaders of the Caribbean Community are raising their voices a third time, saying in a statement today that it is deeply concerned at the ongoing invasion
Russia went into Ukraine without any notice on February 24, 2022
“We register, in particular, our grave concern at the negative impact of the war on the global economy, and on the economies in our Region, where disruptions in trade and high fuel prices have resulted in extremely high rates of inflation reflected in increased prices for goods and services for the people of our Region,” the statement from CARICOM said
Adding, “the Region urges a return to mature diplomacy and calls on all relevant bodies to intensify engagement, to propel an urgent and enduring resolution to the conflict and to build peace. We call for full adherence to the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter.”
Sergey Lavrov met with St Vincent and Grenadines Prime Minister Dr. Ralph Gonsalves in Venezuela recently for talks that were later described as “fundamental”
In fact, a statement released by Lavrov; Russia’s Foreign Affairs Minister, stated that “The two sides stressed the fundamental rejection of the policy of unilateral sanctions imposed in violation of the principles and norms of international law, reaffirmed the commitment to forming a multipolar world based on genuine equality, and mutual respect for the interests of states.”
Gonsalves presented a report on his meeting with Lavrov to his CARICOM colleagues.
