A history-making event took place as Antiguan kiteboarder Tiger Tyson secured a spot in the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris, where he will represent Antigua and Barbuda in kiteboarding.

Tyson, aged 21, won a silver medal in the 2023 Pan American Games, which guaranteed his spot in the Olympics. He was among the top three finishers in 16 races leading up to the medal race.

Tyson finished second in the final, behind Brazil’s Bruno Lobo, and he and his fellow medalist received their silverware on Saturday.

Reflecting on the competition, Tyson described it as a “roller coaster of emotions” and a “week full of intense battles, with highs, lows, and tears.”

He expressed his gratitude towards his coach and friend, as well as everyone who supported him along the way.

Kiteboarding will be making its debut at the Olympics in Paris, with the competition scheduled to take place from August 4-8, 2024, at the Marseille Marina.

Tyson’s accomplishments are inspiring for aspiring athletes, particularly those from smaller or lesser-known countries, to pursue their dreams with hard work and perseverance.
