CPL cricket is returning to Antigua and Barbuda with the newly installed franchise the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons but it seems as if the powers that be have more than just this one team in their eyesight.
The Falcons will be one of several franchises that will be throwing their hat in the ring for one of three new CPL Women’s teams.
“We are also going to be bidding for a Women’s CPL team. The Antigua and Barbuda Falcons is making a pitch to have its own women’s team going forward,” Vernon Springer, one of the officials within the Falcons organization declared on state media.
Cricket and educational camps are also on the cards for the franchise in attempt to foster feeding grounds for the franchise and create stronger bonds within the community.
A number of other events are being planned in this accord.
On Friday, July 5 and every other Friday going forward at Landing Strip bar and grill will be dubbed Falcons Fridays. Patrons can head up to the Pigotts venue to mix and mingle with Falcons officials and other stars.
Jerseys will also be on sale.
Alongside that initiative, a roadshow is set to take place on July 6 where they will be moving through the different communities.
The Antigua and Barbuda Falcons will open their campaign against neighbours the St Kitts & Nevis Patriots on August 29 at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium at North Sound. One day later, they face the Guyana Amazon Warriors also at the North Sound venue. Both matches will start at 7pm.
Falcons will then face the Barbados Royals on September 30 at the same venue starting at 10:00 am before taking on the St Lucia Kings on September 3 starting at 7pm also at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.
