The Antigua and Barbuda Swimming Federation (ABSF) has highlighted the remarkable achievements of several swimmers who set personal best times at the recent CCCAN Championships in Mexico, showcasing their skill and determination in the face of unexpected obstacles.

Notable performances include:

  • Keziah Joseph: Achieved personal bests in both 50m and 100m butterfly events
  • Mila Festini Coromer: Set a new personal record in the 100m freestyle
  • Alessandro Bazzoni: Broke personal records in 100m and 200m freestyle, as well as the 200m individual medley (200IM)
  • Jamie Tranter: Surpassed previous times in 50m backstroke and 200m freestyle
  • Jadon Wuilliez: In addition to his medal-winning swims, set a personal best in the 50m freestyle

These achievements are particularly impressive given the challenging circumstances faced by the athletes during the competition.

The championships were significantly impacted by tropical storm Alberto, which forced organizers to make substantial changes to the event schedule and format. The final two days of competition were altered to feature timed finals instead of the traditional preliminary and final rounds. Additionally, the open water events had to be cancelled entirely due to safety concerns.

Despite these disruptions, the Antiguan swimmers demonstrated remarkable adaptability and focus. Their ability to achieve personal bests under such unpredictable conditions is a testament to their mental strength and thorough preparation.

The ABSF’s recognition of these personal achievements, alongside the earlier reported medal successes, paints a comprehensive picture of the team’s strong performance. It highlights not only top finishes but also the broader progress being made across the entire squad.

As the federation reflects on these accomplishments, the experiences gained from this championship will undoubtedly inform future training and competition strategies, ensuring Antiguan swimmers are well-equipped to excel in future international meets, regardless of the challenges they may face.
