APUA Assists in Power Restoration Efforts in the Canouan Following Hurricane Beryl

ST. JOHN’S, Antigua, 9th August 2024 – In the wake of Hurricane Beryl, many of our Caribbean neighbours are still grappling with the aftermath, especially in the critical area of restoring power utilities.

Recognizing the importance of solidarity and swift action in times
of crisis, the Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA) responded without hesitation when St. Vincent Electricity Services Limited (VINLEC) reached out for assistance in their restoration efforts.

On Sunday, July 21, 2024, APUA promptly deployed a dedicated team to Canouan to aid in the recovery process. This team, led by Transmission and Distribution Supervisor Marlon Lawrence, joined forces with VINLEC and other local partners to help restore power across the island.

Throughout their mission, Team APUA received commendations for their professionalism, dedication, and team spirit from VINLEC and the communities they served. Their efforts have been a shining example of resilience and regional cooperation in the face of adversity.

The combined efforts of the APUA Electricity Business Unit and its partner companies have become a symbol of resilience and solidarity in the ongoing restoration process.

While Marlon Lawrence, Transmission and Distribution Supervisor, has already returned to Antigua, the remaining team members—Kevin Guiste, Wamani Grayman, Euraldo Browne, and Shoy Matthew—continue their crucial work in Canouan. They are committed to ensuring that every repaired connection contributes to the return of hope and normalcy for the communities affected by the storm.

As the restoration efforts continue, the collaboration between APUA’s Electricity Business Unit and our sister companies in the region stands as a powerful testament to the unity and support that define us as Caribbean nations. Team APUA is expected to return to Antigua on Sunday, August 11, 2024, and will resume their normal duties.

The management and staff of APUA extend heartfelt thanks to these unsung heroes for their selfless service, not just to their country, but to their regional counterparts as well.
