The Ministry of Tourism, Civil Aviation, Transportation, and Investment, in collaboration with committed corporate citizens and individuals, successfully carried out its Tourism Week 2024 Charity Day Initiative, bringing relief and joy to those in need, proving once again that tourism is not just about boosting the economy but also about enriching lives and building stronger communities.
This year’s efforts saw the donation of essential items and care packages to several institutions, including the Clearview Hospital, The Care Project, the Fiennes Institute, and the Sunshine Home for Girls. Additionally, an elderly resident, Ms. Lolita Edwards, of the Yorks community, received much-needed support as part of the initiative.
This year, Charity Day also had an inspiring global touch. Mrs. Charmaine Jacobs-Mullin, an Antiguan living abroad, made a heartfelt monetary donation to support the educational dreams of two students, Taiseurnique Newton and Tyrece Noel.
These contributions will help them access the tools and opportunities they need to excel academically and pursue their goals.
The success of the Charity Day initiative was made possible through the generous contributions of our corporate partners, including; West Indies Oil Company Limited, Mega Distributors Limited Chase Distributor’s Ltd, Little Canton Go To Enterprise, Epicurean Fine Foods & Pharmacy Garry’s Farm, Townhouse Mega Store and Cool & Smooth
Minister of Tourism, the Hon. Charles Fernandez, praised the initiative, stating;
“Tourism Week is not only about celebrating the economic benefits of our vibrant industry but also about giving back to the community that sustains it. The Charity Day initiative exemplifies our commitment to social responsibility and our belief in uplifting those who need it most. We are immensely grateful to all our donors for making this meaningful impact possible.”
The Ministry of Tourism extends its deepest gratitude to all contributors and volunteers for their dedication to this initiative. Their compassion and support reflect the spirit of Tourism Week 2024, which continues to highlight the value of tourism in fostering growth, sustainability, and inclusivity.
