Antigua and Barbuda’s Prime Minister, Gaston Browne, has unveiled an exciting initiative that will provide considerable financial relief to residents and visitors alike.
For the weekend of December 20-22, 2024, the Antigua and Barbuda Sales Tax (ABST) will be dramatically reduced from its current rate of 17% to a mere 7%.
This pivotal announcement was made on Saturday during PM Browne’s weekly program, where he also emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting citizens during the festive season.
By substantially lowering the sales tax, the initiative aims to alleviate households’ financial strain as they gear up for Christmas shopping, while encouraging increased consumer spending.
This 10-percentage-point decrease is poised to invigorate the local economy, driving business growth and productivity as families prepare to celebrate the holidays.
This move is anticipated to lighten the financial load for citizens and boost local merchants, who are eager to welcome an influx of shoppers during this bustling time of year.
Why can’t the government of A&B just give its citizens the full 17% off. People are literally suffering financially in this place. While he is boasting of profits in various departments. For heaven sakes, it’s Christmas, dovthe right thing. Gift your people, we deserve it. Take off the entire 17% for the weekend and callbit tax free weekend.
Why can’t some people be grateful for what they get? The 10% off is not owed to us. It’s a gift for crying out loud!!! Just be grateful.
Thanks PM!
