Teachers at Pares Secondary launched their third sit-in on Thursday, and the protest is expected to persist into today, Friday, as their frustrations continue to mount.

The educators are raising alarms over a host of serious concerns, including an unfinished perimeter fence and a bat infestation that jeopardizes the health and safety of the school’s more than 100 students.

In response to the escalating situation, the Ministry of Education mobilized a team that worked tirelessly overnight to tackle these pressing issues.

Principal Letitia Lawrence told local media that, despite the sit-in, student attendance has remarkably remained stable, showing the community’s resilience and commitment amidst the industrial action.

Reports indicate that significant progress has been made. Ninety percent of the daunting mound of accumulated dirt and debris at the rear of the school, along with the surrounding vegetation, has been removed.

However, challenges remain, with two mounds still looming at the back and another at the front of the institution.

A series of security enhancements are in the pipeline. The main entrance gate has been fortified, although additional gates have yet to be installed.

Ground maintenance and urgent bat control measures are also in motion.

The facility is over 50 years old, so these crucial works are anticipated to take around two weeks to complete. The aim is to restore a safe and conducive environment for learning.
