The health and wellness of law enforcement officers in Antigua and Barbuda will be placed on the priority list this week, as they focus on their general physical wellbeing.
Plans are well underway to hold what they are calling a Wellness Jam on Friday, as part of Police Week, which will be celebrated from 4th to 11th September under the theme: “Overcoming the Challenges Together, Police 2022.
“Members of the force are mindful that wellness, fitness, mental and physical aspect of the organization is critical if we are to perform at our optimum and to remain in a position to be able to serve members of the public when we are called to do so,” said Frankie Thomas, the Police Public Relations office.
He said the activity is an opportunity for the officers to take part in programs beneficial to their health and wellness.
“Many of the activities are geared towards fitness. Improving the health of officers. This is the second time we are doing this. As an organization that relies on officers who are mentally and physically fit, it helps with the performance of our daily functions,” Thomas added.
One of the pre-events leading to the activities was a three-leg relay hike to McNish mountain on Sunday, which Thomas said was a great success.
Other activities include a fitness walk and road race. A cricket match and other sporting activities including an athletics meet are also on the cards.
