Dominica PM says Burna Boy breached WCMF contract

31 October 2022 - 22:13

Dominica’s Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit says Afrobeat star Burna Boy breached his contract when he failed to show up for his performance on Saturday night, at the World Creole Music Festival

Thousands were left disappointed after Burna Boy; the main act failed to show up. They were even more incensed when they learned that he never even made the flight to the island.

“What happened on Saturday 29, 2022 had nothing to do with the Discover Dominica Authority (DDA) or anyone in Dominica,” Skerrit told media officials at the stadium. Our airport was open, there was no bad weather, and all our staff was in place, so this has absolutely nothing to do with the World Creole Music Festivals organizers and the government and people of Dominica. There is a contract, and it should have been respected. I would have kept the airport open to having the aircraft land, we were prepared to charter LIAT and had the PM of Antigua and Barbados keep their airports open to facilitate the gentleman,” Skerrit said.

“He should have honored his contract, it is an unfortunate circumstance,” Skerrit said, admitting that Dominica remained committed to their part of the contract.

Meanwhile, Burna Boy whose real name is Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu performed on Sunday night instead, to the dismay of many patrons who claimed “it just wasn’t the same”

Furthermore, they claimed the artiste never apologized for his later arrival.

It is alleged the Burna Boy was paid in excess of $500,000.00 to perform in Dominica. He wasn’t part of the original line-up but was added late after public pressure.
