The ruling Dominica Labour Party has decided to cancel a political campaign carded for tonight in the Salisbury community because the party says it fears for the life of its supporters.

 “The DLP is concerned for the safety of the thousands of Dominicans who would attend this rally to show support for our candidate, Ms Lynsia Frank The DLP is concerned for the safety of the thousands of Dominicans who would attend this rally to show support for our candidate, Ms Lynsia Frank.” The DLP said in a statement Tuesday afternoon.

The DLP said reports reaching the party indicate that there are plans by the United Workers Party to take action to prevent Labourites to participate in the rally

“Over the past few days, and more so, in the last 12 hours, there have been several reports of threats made to the supporters of the DLP. We have also received information that some elements of the United Workers Party,” the DLP statement said.

Furthermore, the party said it would not be “lured into this potentially deadly environment and will not put the lives of our supporters and Dominicans at risk.”

Frank will be able to launch her campaign in Vielle Case, the community of Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit
