Neighboring island Dominica has recorded another domestic homicide in less than 24 hours.

The community of Morne Prosper has been left in a state of shock and mourning, after the death of 47-year-old Avanelle Charles.

Charles was killed in the wee hours of this morning. According to reports from Roseau, Avanelle and her long-time partner were in an argument at around 3:00 a.m. when she was murdered.

Reports from family members and those close to her said that the couple had a long history of domestic abuse

The alleged killer Marshall Jean Jacques reportedly fled the scene and police are said to be looking for him.

Just the day before, 35-year-old Velma Valmond of Sinekou in the Kalinago Territory was found dead on her bathroom floor. She was found lying in a pool of blood with a severe laceration across her neck.

Police said they responded to reports of domestic violence between Valmond and her boyfriend and upon arrival, she was found dead.

Her boyfriend’s name is Alexan Alexander, 32 years old from Mahaut. He was also found on the bathroom floor, frothing from his mouth, and in a state of distress.  It is alleged that he ingested poison.

He was transported to the Accident and Emergency Department of the Dominica China Friendship Hospital and is said to be in stable condition.

Valmond’s 18-year-old daughter is also nursing injuries that were apparently sustained during the same incident and is also in stable condition at the Dominica China Friendship Hospital.
