In an effort to boost bilateral relations, the Government of France has announced plans to establish a new diplomatic office in Guyana by September.

Guyana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has said that while the Office is not an Embassy, it will have full-fledged diplomatic representation.

The aim is to aid in the furtherance of mutually beneficial cooperation and bilateral relations between Guyana and France. 

On Friday, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Hugh Hilton Todd met with Nicolás Bouillane de Lacoste, the non-resident Ambassador of the Republic of France to the Co-operative Republic of Guyana. 

It was there that the Ambassador announced the decision that had been made by the French Government.  

Guyana and France established diplomatic relations on June 22, 1967.
