Guyana dorm fire claims another life, 13-year-old is 20th death

The dorm fire at the Mahdia Secondary School in Guyana has claimed its 20th life.

13-year-old Sherana Daniels was hospitalized following the dormitory fire but died almost two weeks later.

19 girls died during the fire but several were hospitalized. Daniels was one of them.

Guyana’s President Irfaan Ali expressed condolences to the parents, relatives, and students, saying “Sherana is the 20th victim of this tragedy. We pray that her loved ones are granted strength and courage during this difficult period. My government and all of Guyana continue to keep you in our prayers. Rest in peace and rise in glory Sherana!”

A student who was angry that her cellphone was taken away because she was communicating with a man allegedly set fire to the school. She is expected to be charged with 19 counts of murder

A five-year-old boy also died in the fire. He was the son of the dorm mother

The victims are Tracil Thomas, Lisa Roberts, Delecia Edwards, Lorita Williams, Natalie Bellarmine, Arriana Edwards, Cleoma Simon, Subrina John, Martha Dandrade, Loreen Evans, Belnisa Evans, Mary Dandrade, Omerfia Edwin, Nickleen Robinson, Sherena Daniels, Eulander Carter, Andrea Roberts and Rita Jeffrey.
