Anonymous Tip Leads to Dramatic Bar Standoff: Illegal Firearm and Drugs Uncovered

Two men found themselves cornered in a bar by police after an anonymous caller tipped off the cops about an illegal firearm.

On the afternoon of June 6, the police were alerted to a man reportedly carrying a gun at East Bus Station by someone who wished to keep their identity under wraps.

The caller reportedly described a man matching the description of Trevor Powell of Villa and when officers spotted the defendant at the scene and approached him and some other men, they all allegedly ran into a bar.

The police were able to apprehend them in the bar and upon searching Powell they reportedly found an unlicensed modified flare gun containing one bullet in his waist.

He was arrested and subsequently charged with the illegal possession of both items and was brought to the St. John’s Magistrate’s Court today where he was remanded until August 10.

On Thursday, Lyndon Roberts, a man found with drugs in the same bar was fined $1000.

The police found a bag belonging to him on the floor and searched it to find 23.7 grams of cannabis in several small Ziploc bags.

The money is said to be valued at a little over $300.
