Woman Claims Businessman Tricked Her into Coming to Antigua for Job but Used Her Instead

Dear Editor,

I am a young woman from the diaspora and I met a businessman from Antigua and Barbuda who is the Chief Executive Officer of a major company there. We met when he was on business in my country.

We spoke for a few hours; we exchanged numbers and he promised that he could get me a job if I travel to Antigua and Barbuda

He sent me a ticket and I came to the country. I walked with my CV, work clothes, work shoes…I came prepared for work.

I was picked up at V..C Bird by a female driver and taken to his home.

I stayed in his house for over a week where I was used. When I asked about the job, I was told that arrangements are being made with the human resource manager.

I knew no one in Antigua so I remained in the house. This man made sure I had everything I wanted to eat and drink except the job he promised me

Then one day [assuming he had enough of me], I was picked up by the same driver and taken to the airport and sent back to my country

This man is very meticulous in his dealings. He arranged my flight and everything. He is seemingly well-known in this little Antigua.

I was given a lot of cash on my way out of the country from that driver who told me I am not to come back.

I am from an OECS/CARICOM country. Nobody should tell me I can’t return

I am not looking for sympathy but I want to admonish your women to be very careful with predators in suits.

  1. I only wish such persons was called out by name. Just as you was embarrassed, I would in return give them what they deserve. Antiqua is too small for such behavior. That’ could be classified as human trafficking.
