A 26-year-old man with a prior conviction for robbery has been ordered to pay a fine of $30,000 after pleading guilty to possessing a firearm and ammunition without the required license.
Josh Lucien, who had previously served a 5-year sentence for an armed robbery at a Chinese supermarket in April 2015, pleaded guilty to possessing 11 rounds of 9mm ammunition and a Ruger SR9c 9mm pistol in court this morning.
The incident unfolded on August 25 around 6:40 a.m. when officers conducted a mobile patrol in the Ottos area.
They noticed Lucien sitting in a vehicle, displaying suspicious behaviour. Upon approaching him and requesting a vehicle search, Lucien willingly complied.
During the search, law enforcement officers discovered the firearm and ammunition concealed in a bag.
Lucien was arrested, charged, and brought before the court after the discovery.
During the court proceedings, he admitted to the offense and explained that he had found the weapon while cleaning a gutter near an abandoned house.
Interestingly, Lucien had previously served a 5-year sentence for aggravated robbery at a Chinese supermarket.
He was accused of robbing Home Town Supermarket armed with a cutlass in April 2015.
The court, having acknowledged Lucien’s past criminal history, issued a sentence that mandates the payment of a $20,000 fine for the firearm possession and an additional $10,000 fine for the ammunition.
