The St. Lucian man charged with the murder of customs officer Zorina Benjamin has formally pleaded not guilty.
The lifeless body of Zorina Benjamin, was discovered in her Golden Grove residence on November 22, 2021, bearing a fatal gunshot wound to the head.
Following this incident, her partner, Delon Charlery, a national of St. Lucia, became the focus of a murder investigation.
Charlery has remained in custody, remanded to prison after his initial court appearance.
During Charlery’s recent arraignment in the High Court before Justice Ann-Marie Smith, he asserted his innocence regarding the tragic death of his girlfriend.
The court scheduled a subsequent appearance for January 26, during which a trial date may be determined.
The matter has garnered substantial public attention, with many hopefuls that the investigative process will ultimately reveal the truth behind the devastating loss of the customs officer.
