Two men accused of human trafficking may have to answer for the crimes before a High Court Judge.
Their case was committed to the High Court earlier this week after Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel determined that there was sufficient evidence against the duo to necessitate its committal.
Alvin Goodwin and Kevorn Crump faced charges earlier this year related to human trafficking and conspiracy to traffic 12 individuals from India.
The alleged incident occurred in February 2023 when a boat carrying 12 Indians, including a minor, was intercepted in Antigua’s waters, reportedly arriving from Dominica.
The boat reportedly belonged to Crump but was operated by Goodwin.
Following the interception, both Goodwin and Crump, along with the illegal immigrants, were arrested and charged.
The adult immigrants admitted guilt for entering the country unlawfully and were subsequently fined $1000 each before being deported.
Subsequently, the two local suspects accused of facilitating the illegal entry were brought to the All Saints Magistrate’s Court.
The court granted them bail amounting to $200,000, with a cash component of $50,000, and imposed additional conditions.
