Press Statement

The Government and People of Antigua and Barbuda express their deepest condolences to the Government and People of Kuwait on the death of their Head of State, His Highness Sheik Nawaf Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah.

Kuwait has been a very helpful friend of Antigua and Barbuda dating back many decades, following the destruction wrought by Hurricane Luis in 1995. Kuwait contributed significantly to our island-country’s reconstruction. His Highness was singularly responsible for his State’s many acts of generosity during the nearly three decades following.

His Highness Sheik Nawaf Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah was a transcendent political leader who played a significant role in his own country, helping to further modernize his country’s defense following an attempt to snuff out its sovereignty. Kuwait remains one of the leading small states in the Middle East, with friends in many regions and corners of the world.

His Highness Sheik Nawaf Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah has been a good friend of Antigua and Barbuda. His death has deprived us of the comity that characterized our relations, but Kuwait will always remain a very dependable ally him peacefully in the afterlife.
