ABLP Senator Dwayne George, has denounced statements made by Kelvin “Shugy” Simon, the current Member of Parliament for St Mary’s South, as “deceitful” and “misleading.”
Simon had spoken out about the fate of police officers attached to the Bolans Police Station, temporarily housed in the Jolly Harbour vicinity while a new station was being constructed a few feet away.
Simon had blamed the government’s failure to pay rent for the erected barriers, preventing the officers from utilizing the space.
However, George clarified that in 2017, the government and the Royal Police Force partnered with Caribbean Development Antigua (CDAL) to temporarily house the Bolans station on the Jolly Harbour compound free of charge, with utilities also being paid for.
George further stated that it is apparent that neither Simon nor his colleagues did their research, and they are instead on a campaign to mislead the people of St. Mary’s South and the wider Antiguan population.
He called this form of politicking “lazy” and said it was counterproductive to want to manage a place while spreading lies about it.
George believes that Simon and his counterparts are uneasy with the level of development that has taken place under the Gaston Browne-led administration and will stop at nothing to try and discredit it by spreading propaganda.
Nonetheless, George is confident that these tactics will not fool the people of Antigua and Barbuda.
