The Police are reportedly investigating the disappearance of over $21,000 in cash and a quantity of cannabis that had been in the custody of a police officer.

Reports say the money was confiscated as evidence from a man named Kimani Donowa when he was arrested and charged about 6 months ago.

The Police believed the money was the proceeds of the sale of drugs.

When the defendant first appeared in court in August, the money and the drugs were not present.

It is alleged that, while giving evidence, the investigating officer could not produce the items taken from the accused.

It appears that she had misplaced the funds and could not remember what she had done with the sum of money.

When she was questioned about it, the source says, the officer reportedly gave the Court various excuses and attempted to implicate other officers.

Up to yesterday when the defendant appeared in court the exhibits were not presented and Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel was forced to dismiss the case.

However, the police are said to be investigating the matter internally.
