The case involving Karim Edwards, accused of causing the death of a medical student and severely injuring another through dangerous driving, is yet to be forwarded to a higher court.
Edwards allegedly drove a vehicle that struck two American University of Antigua (AUA) students as they crossed Friars Hill Road on October 23, 2022.
The collision tragically claimed the life of 21-year-old Kenneth Mathew, who suffered severe brain trauma and passed away on November 1, 2022.
His companion, Priyanjana Das, then 19, survived but sustained significant injuries, including the loss of her right arm, fractures to her left arm, and injuries to her pelvis.
Initially charged with dangerous driving, Edwards now faces an upgraded charge of causing death by dangerous driving following Mathew’s passing.
Despite over a year passing, the police have yet to complete their file on the matter.
The committal hearing, scheduled at the St. John’s Magistrate’s Court, was postponed again this week. It has been rescheduled for May 9.
This delay means that neither the accused nor the alleged victims will see a resolution in the High Court any time soon.
