This week, the case involving Karim Edwards, accused of causing the death of a medical student and inflicting severe injuries on another through dangerous driving, may be fowarded to the High Court.

The presiding Magistrate granted a brief adjournment last week, to allow the prosecution to finalize their preparations.

Edwards allegedly operated a vehicle that collided with two American University of Antigua (AUA) students as they crossed Friars Hill Road on October 23, 2022.

The collision resulted in the death of 21-year-old Kenneth Mathew, who suffered severe brain trauma and succumbed on November 1, 2022.

His companion, Priyanjana Das, then 19, survived but sustained significant injuries, including the loss of her right arm, fractures to her left arm, and injuries to her pelvis.

Initially charged with dangerous driving, Edwards now faces an upgraded charge of causing death by dangerous driving following Mathew’s passing.

Despite more than a year passing, the legal proceedings have yet to advance.

The committal hearing was postponed again last week and is now slated for May 16.

  1. The office of THE DPP needs to be monitored closely to ensure that justice is meted fairly to all who require it. The recent case of the Barbudan gangsters who had their cases thrown out because of the repeated failure of the Prosecution, led by a Guyanese/Barbudan/Antiguan DPP to present the necessary case file in a timely manner!! Imagine that. Was this DPP conflicted being the daughter of an “important ” member of the Barbuda Local Council and whose father could possibly, and most probably end up in jail on the charges laid against these gangsters. And of course politicians indulge their political foes by pretending they don’t see or know what is going on. Is Antigua a real place?
