A group of teachers from Christ the King School recently gathered at the school’s entrance, all dressed in black and white attire.
Their purpose was to attract the attention of media personnel, parents, and, most importantly, the Board of Catholic Schools.
The teachers are seeking to highlight the fact that they have not received salary increases in over five years.
In June of 2023, a letter was sent to the parents of Christ the King, announcing that school fees would be raised to pay teachers.
However, as of September 2024, the teachers have not received any increase. The teachers claim that the Board is prolonging negotiations with the ABUT, and they are growing impatient.
Despite their tireless efforts and hard work, the teachers feel undervalued and unappreciated by the school’s board leadership.
They believe that the exceptional student results achieved at the end of each school year are a testament to the educators’ dedication and commitment.
Moreover, the teachers are deeply troubled by the prolonged negotiations with the Teacher’s Union, particularly during these challenging times of inflation and rapidly rising cost of living. The delay in reaching a fair and timely agreement is causing undue stress and uncertainty among the teaching staff.
The teachers are urging the leaders of the schools’ Board to prioritize the well-being and professional satisfaction of the educators. They feel that it is essential that their hardworking teachers feel respected, supported, and fairly compensated for their invaluable contributions to the academic success of the students.
