Authorities are investigating a burglary at Villa Primary School, a government-owned institution.
According to reports, several electronic devices were stolen from the school premises between 6 a.m. on March 16 and 6:15 a.m. on March 17.
The school’s deputy principal immediately contacted the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to register a complaint about the break-in.
Based on further reports, the principal’s office had been locked and secured before the incident.
However, upon her return, she noticed that her office had been tampered with, and valuable electronic items were missing.
The intruders apparently gained entry to the building by cutting through a portion of a western door and then breaking it down forcefully to gain access to the office.
Despite an immediate and extensive search of the area, the missing items have not yet been recovered.
A similar trend of burglaries occurred in schools across the island in 2023, resulting in the government’s promise to install security cameras in all schools.
Education Minister Daryll Matthew said installing CCTV cameras at all schools is a work in progress
A number of government and private schools have already had their security beefed up
