Work on fencing of the new cemetery at Tolinson’s

Significant progress has been made on Phase One of the preparatory work for the new public cemetery site at Tomlinson’s, which is a joint initiative of the ministries of health and works.

Minister Maria Bird-Browne shared an update on her Facebook page, featuring a photo of workers installing the perimeter fence for the facility.

The work on the cemetery is being conducted seven days a week, with an “all-hands-on-deck” approach to ensure completion as soon as possible.

According to Sen. Rawdon Turner, the Executive Chairman of the National Housing and Urban Renewal and Development Company, the work being done on the interior roads is just one aspect of the project.

They are also preparing a space for interior parking, a manager’s office, and a public bathroom facility.

The goal is to appoint someone as the manager of the facility, who will have an office on site. Additionally, public bathrooms are essential, as they have been lacking in other cemeteries in the country.

As part of the plan for the new cemetery, a series of solar lights will be installed to ensure that it is well-lit around the clock, using renewable energy sources.

Sen. Rawdon declined to provide a timeline for completion of the cemetery, but he emphasized that it is a top priority of the government. They have allocated significant resources to ensure its timely completion.

The government wants to commission the new cemetery as soon as possible, as the St. John’s cemetery is quickly running out of burial spaces.

Thus, the new cemetery will help address this issue and provide adequate space for future burials.
