Washington Bramble, a popular transgender figure on social media, continues to contest charges she believes violate her constitutional rights.

The accusations involve online remarks directed at Chief Health Inspector Sharon Martin.

The case, currently before Justice Ann Marie Smith in the High Court, has seen Bramble, representing herself, challenging the charges’ constitutionality.

Last year, she applied for a stay of proceedings while she contested the legality of the charges.

The allegations stem from Facebook posts made in February 2022, following a visit by health inspectors to Bramble’s residence in response to a neighbour’s complaint about alleged actions involving their property.

Bramble contends that Section 4 of the Electronic Crimes Act, under which she is charged, infringes on her freedom of speech and other constitutional rights.

During the most recent hearing on Wednesday, Bramble requested more time to review the crown’s latest response to her legal arguments, this time with the assistance of an attorney.

Her next court appearance is scheduled for May 10.
