A magnitude 7.7 earthquake hit off the coast of Taiwan, causing a tsunami warning in Japan.

Several buildings in Hualien have collapsed, and 87,000 people are without power in Taiwan.

The earthquake triggered a tsunami of about 0.3 meters, which reached Yonaguni Island in Japan.

There were no casualties, and the alert was downgraded to an advisory.

Japan has experienced its deadliest quake in eight years on New Year’s Day, and the Northeast coast was struck by a magnitude 9 earthquake in 2011, causing a nuclear accident at the Fukushima plant.
