Antigua PM expects $6 billion economy by year-end

Antigua and Barbuda’s Prime Minister, Gaston Browne, has announced his unwavering confidence in the country’s economic strength and resilience.

In a statement over the weekend on his radio station Pointe FM, Browne, also the country’s finance minister, projected a significant milestone of achieving a $6 billion economy by the end of the year, which is a testament to the country’s progress and prosperity.

The Prime Minister’s optimistic outlook on the country’s future economic growth is a source of inspiration and hope for the nation’s citizens and investors alike.

“When they continue to make the excuses that the global crisis impacted growth and development, my administration acknowledged the impact of Covid-19, but we never used it as an excuse to say that we could not have grown the country’s economy because of the lingering impact of Covid”, he said

Browne stated that despite a heavy blow to Antigua and Barbuda’s economy, which resulted in an 18% loss in a single year, the country could bounce back and achieve an average annual growth rate of 8%.

“When you look at the growth that we are experiencing now, contrast that with what we inherited when we took office back in 2014. We had an economy with a size of $3.2 billion. So, to expand the economy to $6 billion in that time you are talking about almost doubling the economy. This is a phenomenal development for any country,” he added
