Former Police Commissioner Sir Wright F George
Former Police Commissioner Sir Wright F George has been hospitalized.
While details remain sketchy on what sort of illness the former top cop is battling Chief of Staff in the Prime Minister’s office Lionel ‘Max’ Hurst did provide brief update on his current condition.
According to Hurst, who made the disclosure during the Post Cabinet Press Briefing on Thursday morning, Sir George is “doing quite well”. He still however remains hospitalized.
The 93-year-old retired in June of 1990; having served for 39 years.
He joined the Constabulary on June 9th, 1951, and served as Commissioner of Police for 16 years. He was awarded Knighthood by the Government of Antigua and Barbuda during the 2016 Independence celebrations.
On his 85th birthday on November 18th, 2015, the Police Administration renamed the Langfords Police Training School to Sir Wright F. George Police Academy in his honor.
This renaming initiative was spearheaded by former Commissioner of Police, Wendell Robinson.
Just last year, Sir George was honoured by Interpol for his exceptional service to Interpol in the Caribbean region from 1986 to 2023.
He served as the Commissioner of Police in 1986 and delivered the country’s acceptance speech at the General Assembly meeting held that October in Belgrade.
