Homicide officers have been contacted after an autopsy revealed that two-year-old Xaevi’el Glasgow died as a result of blunt force trauma. 

The procedure, conducted on Monday at the Forensic Science Centre in St James, also concluded that the toddler suffered internal bleeding.

Police told Guardian Media yesterday that following these findings, a woman who was previously questioned in connection with the toddler’s death may now face murder charges.

Investigators said they are expected to consult with officials at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions to determine the appropriate charges, if any.

Glasgow died on June 14.

Police stated that the toddler’s parents went to take him home after he spent the day at the home of a babysitter on Grant Street, Couva.

According to the parents, the toddler had been left in the woman’s care. The woman is known to the family. The toddler had been taken there for the past two weeks before his death. Upon their arrival at the babysitter’s home, little Xaevi’el was unresponsive. He was taken to the Couva District Hospital, but was declared dead shortly after arrival.

Medical staff noted what appeared to be marks of violence on the child’s body and informed the police.

When contacted for comment on the findings of the autopsy and how the family was coping, Xaevi’el’s father, Juval Glasgow, said he was organising his son’s death certificate at the time.
