Forecasters eye possible tropical formation off African coast

Meteorologists are closely watching a tropical wave located several hundred miles south-southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands.

The system is currently generating scattered showers and thunderstorms, but remains disorganized.

As the wave tracks westward across the Atlantic, forecasters anticipate the possibility of slow development later this week or early next week. The National Hurricane Center has assigned a 30% chance of tropical formation within the next seven days.

However, the system faces a significant challenge in the form of an extensive Saharan Air Layer. This plume of dry, dusty air from the Saharan Desert could potentially inhibit the wave’s development as it traverses the Atlantic.

Meteorologists will continue to monitor the system’s progress and potential impact on weather patterns in the coming days.
