During a meeting with the new UK Resident High Commissioner Representative, John Hamilton, Prime Minister Gaston Browne discussed important matters such as climate change and the global financial system.

PM Browne expressed gratitude to the UK government for their support in hosting the SIDS4 conference and urged the UK to further aid Antigua and Barbuda in advocating for fair changes in the international financial system.

He emphasized the need for financial justice, highlighting the disparities in borrowing terms between different countries. PM Browne also brought attention to the establishment of the new MVI and stressed the importance of concessionary funding based on factors beyond per capita income.

On the topic of climate change, the prime minister underscored the significant impact on Antigua and Barbuda and emphasized the country’s role in advocating for emission reduction and securing funding for mitigation and addressing loss and damage.

In response, UK Representative Hamilton acknowledged the global significance of the challenges faced by small island states and emphasized the urgent attention needed for issues such as climate change and global financial markets, with a specific focus on the vulnerabilities of small island developing states like Antigua and Barbuda.
