Dear Editor:
Puppet masters, animal farms, black dictators. These are just a few colorful words I could use to paint a picture of the political circus we’ve been enduring with the United Progressive Party. Our party is a drama series, and the season finale is Anthony Smith’s resignation.
It’s surprising that this young man was able to leave the UPP. It’s clear that something is amiss. That something is D. Gisiel Isaac, the tyrant who has been consistently causing conflict among members, as they have claimed.
The party has been experiencing a significant walkout of members following their loss of office a decade ago.
Despite this, the party leadership remains resistant to change. Most dissenting members express frustration with the leadership, feeling stifled by what they perceive as a dictatorial rule and a hostile environment that discourages the expression of their views.
An emergency meeting took place last night following Smith’s surprising resignation, and like many similar gatherings, it didn’t end well.
It appears that the “great and mighty” D. Gisele Isaac intended to remove Anthony Smith, Kelvin Shugy Simon, and Richard Lewis Giselle from the picture. Algernon Watts is seemingly tolerated only due to the potential use of Observer Radio.
Last night, it was clear that Richard Lewis is now the center of attention. There seems to be a strong desire to remove him from the party. Lewis is currently in Jamaica and appears to be struggling, having taken time overseas to deal with the distress.
Giselle made it clear that if an election were to be held right now, Sherfield Bowen and Jamale Pringle would likely be the only viable candidates to secure their seats.
Another surprising revelation was the potential return of Harold Lovell to lead the party. It’s ridiculous that the UPP is so devoid of leadership that they are considering bringing back a figure who has run in 10 elections and won only two.
This is quite a lot to process; a retrograde step resorting to a “spent Harold” for leadership. Waw!
No Longer Loyal
A few years ago, this seemingly untouchable monster chairMAN publicly uttered its desire to address a personal hit-list in its ” i have a few people I want to kill” declaration. NOBODY, not the Church, not our usually vocal intelligensia, not our so-called civil(ized) members of society uttered a a word of public reprimand or censure. Everyone stood in awe of this big, black, ugly monster in the making. Today we are reaping the whirlwind. Frustrating capable, strong, decent women(qualities “she”has never and will never possess(ed), and emasculating the “men” that surround “her”, seem to provide the fuel for this monster’s sick ego – a monster that grows uglier and uglier with each passing day. Mr. Smith, nuff respect for showing what this monster craves but can’t have – BALLS. No need to tarnish your reputation any further by being associated with this nightmare of a chairMAN. Congratulations, Sir.
This lady has been a very strong labor party supporter before to be joining the UPP. If you don’t believe check her background political affiliation. She was sent to destroy the UPP. A great pretender of love for the UPP. She was brought back to Antigua by the Lester Bird administration. If the UPP doesn’t do anything about her soon, the party is doomed. She got to go!! The UPP recruits them and the ABLP buy them over.
I find it very strange that whenever there is a PROBLEM, the woman ALWAYS gets the blame! Usually, it is other women who are the main culprits. Look around you, Antiguan men are still at the top of the foodchain! WE DON’T RESPECT women in this society! As a result, many capable women are pushed aside and marginalized, for daring to dream big!
Unbelievably, they chose Shugy over Richard Lewis! Shugy is a child! An undisciplined, inexperienced, inarticulate, man-child! Yet educated, mature, intelligent, and deserving women are pushed aside in this “cult of personality” you people call the UPP! No self-respecting upwardly-mobile woman would, or should, subject herself to that! The political climate in Antigua is steeped in 18th century dogma and practices! Our women are disrespected and counted out at every turn! I hope you people are paying attention to the Caribbean country with a very capable woman at the helm! Let that be a lesson to all the naysayers!
Needless to say, I will not be voting in any elections for the foreseeable future! Until there is transformational changes in the way we do things, it is pointless! You will be stuck with Gaston Browne and the ABLP for decades to come! Get used to this substandard way of life. It will be our reality for a very long time!
Perhaps At A Time Such as This we ALL Could be Asking OURSELVES (both Males & Females in Our Nation) the Following Questions:
…… What exactly does The Stance Taken by THIS Youthful M P (encouraged by Our Sitting P M) tell Us about Our Nation and Our People…..(Including Our Leaders)?
………. Can I contribute Anything to the Pot (leaving out Blame, Criticism, Character Assassination, Cynicism, etc.) that could help with the BUILDING UP of Our Nation in Its Current Situation?
……….. Is there Any Space to Stand Back……. Take A Reasoned View of the Present Situation …….Accept and Attempt to Understand All Persons Involved — as they are? (A Very Difficult Task).
……..Can I Put on Listening Ears ……….. And begin to ask myself: What Exactly is There to LEARN about All The Persons Involved, Myself, Persons I Talk and Listen to, And, Is There A Specific Role I am called to Play in All This?…….
………. Does My Love for ANU/BAR drive me to DO Anything to Contribute to Its BETTERMENT???
Just A Few Questions to Assist us All with The Introspection needed (by All of Us) at A Time Such as THIS in Our Nation …… Peace! 🌻😇🇦🇬🙏🏿
