Drivers Penalized for Dangerous Driving

Several drivers were fined and disqualified from driving after they appeared before Chief Magistrate Dexter Wason in the St. Johns Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

Zachery Charles of Bendals was disqualified from holding a driver’s license for 90 days on a charge of dangerous driving. He was also fined $2,500 for driving without insurance. Failure to pay the fine, he will spend 30 days at His Majesty’s Prison.

Similarly, Mullinger Alexander of Cassada Gardens, Jaheel Lee of Green Bay, and Nimoy Wynter of Whenner Road were all fined $1,000 each for dangerous driving. These fines are to be paid in 30 days or serve 30 days in prison.

Also, Che’dina Hughes of Cashew Hill was fined $1,000 forthwith for permitting to drive and her driver’s license suspended for 90 days. If she fails to pay the fine, she will serve 30 days at His Majesty’s Prison.

Meanwhile, Collin Smith of Urlings and Tajah Oliver of Vernons were fined $500 each for committing similar offences. They are to pay the fines in 7 days. Oliver also had his driver’s license suspended for 14 days.

The arrests came as a result of the heightened vigilance of the traffic department to improve road safety and reduce the amount of traffic accidents on the roads. The police continue to appeal to drivers to drive within the speed limits and observe all traffic signs.
