Lewis Reportedly Discussing Ambassadorship Position with Gov’t; Not True He says

18 July 2024 - 13:00

There are rumors that Richard Lewis, a Member of Parliament from the United Progressive Party, is in discussions with the government about assuming an ambassadorial role.

Lewis however has denied the allegations. In fact he said he has not held negotiations with any member of the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party.

Speculation suggests that Lewis may be considering leaving the UPP due to dissatisfaction with the party.

Sources indicate that Lewis has been frictional with the party leadership, particularly after a recent convention.

When approached for comment, a representative from the ABLP mentioned that they already have a strong candidate for Rural West and might be unable to accommodate Lewis even if they were considering him.

“I am not negotiating with anyone. I am not interested in running on an ABLP Ticket,” Lewis said

Many people speculate that Lewis might have decided against the move or, like former colleague Anthony Smith, is refuting the allegations to maintain his position within the UPP.
