Hotel occupancy levels in Antigua and Barbuda for the first half of the year have increased significantly. The average rate and revenue per night have also risen.

Chief Executive Officer of the Antigua and Barbuda Tourism Authority, Colin James, believes this not only cements Antigua and Barbuda as a premier destination but also ensures that the funds collected from the industry for marketing initiatives are increasing as well.

“We are attracting more visitors, and they are paying more for their vacations and holidays in Antigua,” James said.

He was speaking during a news conference on Monday, where tourism officials revealed figures pointing to record success in air and sea arrivals for the first half of 2024.

In terms of airlift, James also outlined that, for the very first time this winter season, Delta Airlines will be operating daily flights from Atlanta to Antigua and Barbuda.

“For December rolling into January, there will also be daily flights from Charlotte, North Carolina, to Antigua. American Airlines will also operate daily out of New York,” he said.

Meanwhile, the tourism authority CEO commended the efforts of the marketing teams both locally and abroad for their success in the sector.

“The feedback that we get from travel agents, in particular, is that Antigua and Barbuda’s Tourism Board in the US is renowned. They are efficient, punch well above their weight, and are constantly seeking new initiatives and opportunities,” the CEO said.

The theme for this year’s marketing campaign is ‘BE,’ which James explained is about being present in the moment and allowing one’s senses to awaken to the variety of experiences Antigua and Barbuda has to offer.

The tourism authority has also developed a year-long calendar of events to effectively market the destination.

“You can be romantic, you can be forever, be spontaneous, be adventurous, be carefree. It lends itself to a multitude of opportunities,” James said.
