Tires being burnt at The Cooks Landfill
Chairman of the National Solid Waste Management Authority Micheal Joseph says the organization is seeking to improve operations at the Cooks Sanitary Landfill
The smoke emanating from the landfill have been a major contention over years, especially from villagers who claim that they have been negatively impacting from the fumes.
There have also been criticisms from the Parliamentary Representatives for St Johns
Rural West MP Richard Lewis has criticized the absence of a general manager for the landfill.
However, Joseph said efforts to fill the manager position have been fruitless.
He said despite advertising the position in August last year and receiving only one applicant, who did not meet the specific qualifications and experience required, the position has remained vacant since 2002.
Another advertisement will be circulated to fill the vacant post.
Are the department telling me that no qualified person in Antigua and Barbuda to filled that managerial position?? I guess they’re looking for a yes man or woman for the job. Next, we will be hearing that foreign employed for the said position.
