CHEVAUGHN BENJAMIN RESIGNS AS CHAIRMAN OF UPP’S RURAL WEST BRANCH

Chevaughn Benjamin has resigned as the United Progressive Party’s Branch Chairman for St John”s Rural West. It is the latest in a string of departures from the Opposition Party.

Benjamin has reportedly cited the need to focus on his family and mental health. Benjamin was a prominent figure within the party and had played a pivotal role in the election of the Hon. Richard Lewis to the Rural West seat. Other high-profile resignations from the beleaguered party include Dr Cleon Athill, Anthony Smith Jr and several youth executives.

King’s Counsel Justin Simon recently advised the UPP to thoroughly investigate claims that other members are planning to leave. He recommends the formation of a committee to “weed out” those whose allegiance is not to the party.
