Inflation in Antigua and Barbuda Hits 6.2% in July 2024

Prices rose by an average of 6.2 percent over the 12-month period up to July 2024.

That’s the update on headline inflation from the Statistics Division in the Finance Ministry.

The Food Index rose by 4 percent, with most of that increase coming from the indexes for vegetables, bread and cereals, meat, and meat products.

Price rises for vegetables contributed the most to food inflation, accounting for 25.6 percent over the 12 months to July. The index for bread and cereals had the second-largest impact.

Core inflation, which excludes food and energy prices, was recorded at 6.6 percent. This was driven by increases in the indexes for miscellaneous goods and services, communication, alcoholic beverages, tobacco, and the sub-index for the purchase of vehicles.

Inflation in Antigua and Barbuda remains largely imported due to the structure of the economy.
