Pringle responds to latest resignation

By Aabigayle McIntosh

United Progressive Party (UPP) leader Jamale Pringle has confirmed the resignation of Kevin Arif Jonas, former Chairman and Caretaker of the party’s All Saints West branch.

Jonas is the latest member to step down, citing in his resignation letter a desire for a new direction that better aligns with his personal and professional values, while expressing gratitude for the opportunities the party provided.

Pringle, speaking on the matter during an interview with Observer Radio, shared that he spoke to Jonas on Wednesday and is confident that his decision was a personal one, unrelated to any issues within the party.

He also assured that the party would continue to support Jonas in any future endeavors.

The UPP has faced a series of resignations, including that of Hon. Anthony Smith Jr., the Member of Parliament for All Saints West, who is now serving as an independent MP and cabinet minister.

Another major resignation came from party stalwart Dr. Edmond Mansoor.

Pringle acknowledged that the organization has faced similar challenges even before his leadership. While some have blamed the party’s leadership, he emphasized that the UPP has consistently rebounded from these obstacles.

He added that this resilience is a testament to the party’s strength, noting that since the beginning of the year, at least 160 new members have been ratified.

Looking ahead, Pringle revealed that the party will soon announce a slate of 10 new candidates, all of whom are credible and bring valuable contributions.

He expressed confidence in the party’s future and reaffirmed his commitment to positioning the UPP for success in the upcoming general election.
