Antiguan Bishop addresses problem of Youth Violence

Bishop Charlesworth Browne

By Aabigayle McIntosh

A prominent religious leader has emphasized that addressing the issue of youth gangs and violence against youth will require more comprehensive efforts beyond the current interventions.

Bishop Charlesworth Browne commended the government, particularly the Prime Minister and his team, for facilitating a truce between two rival gangs.

As a result, several youths have been enrolled in the Harrison Center, Antigua and Barbuda School of Continuing Education, while others have gained employment opportunities.

However, Browne highlighted that the primary responsibility for addressing youth violence lies with parents and the family unit.

Browne also added that the Noble Harrison Center, Antigua and Barbuda School of Continuing Education, continues to lead with excellence, now achieving even greater distinction under the Harrison brand.

He noted that the Harrison Center is not only a ladder for individuals seeking to advance their education and training, but also houses a purpose-driven counseling and chaplaincy department.

“This department provides guidance and support on a range of issues to all students and staff”, Browne said.

“Every student enrolled, and by extension, the entire staff, benefit from the support services offered by the counseling and chaplaincy department,” Browne added.

He also praised the Harrison Center and the Antigua and Barbuda School of Continuing Education for their “unique role in nation-building.”
