Plans are in the pipeline to establish a taxi association on the sister island of Barbuda in response to the influx of visitors expected to pass through the newly opened Burton-Nibbs International Airport.

President of the United Taxi Association Ian Joseph mentioned that possibility during a recent state media interview.

He believes this will be crucial to improving ground transportation on Barbuda.

“We’re in talks with a few of them to set up an association.  They would have reached out and we are talking to them because it’s going to take some good organization to get that done,” Joseph said.

He explained prospective association members would have to first meeting amongst themselves in order to form an association.

He also added that the United Taxi Company’s role would be to guide, not to control the decision making process.

The Barbuda International Airport, soon to be renamed the Burton-Nibbs International Airport, is expected to bring numerous benefits to the sister island of Antigua and Barbuda.
