VIDEO: Protest in Dominica Over Lack of Jobs for Truck Drivers

16 October 2024 - 14:50

Truck drivers in Dominica are protesting due to a lack of employment.

They claim that despite ongoing construction work in the country, they are not offered any job opportunities. The jobs, according to them, are being granted to foreigners

To express their frustration, the drivers blocked Canefield Road, the main route to and from the city, preventing vehicles from passing.

As a result, several residents could not get to work and had to return home on foot.

During the protests, police arrested one of the drivers, which further escalated tensions among the protesters.

In retaliation, the truck drivers intensified their blockade of the roads.

Police attempted to disperse the crowd using tear gas, but the drivers have vowed to continue their protests.
