Work continues at Boys Training School

18 October 2024 - 12:52

Work at the Boys’ Training School is still ongoing.

According to this week’s Cabinet notes, the Boys’ Training School is to be further upgraded and in the 2025 Budget, a sum has been set aside to improve the conditions under which the boys will live.

Chief of Staff in the Prime Minister’s Office Lionel Hurst explained further during the Post Cabinet Press Briefing on Thursday.

“Well, the Boys Training School in itself is very ready. We did all the internal work, and I believe they are now waiting on some furniture to arrive and the landscaping as I understand it has also been completed,” Hurst explained.

And while work will continue at that location, discussions are moving along regarding the Pan Am Base which has been earmarked by Cabinet to be retrofitted into a detention centre.

The facility will house juveniles who have been found guilty of disobeying the law and have been sentenced to incarceration.

Presently juveniles are at His Majesty’s Prison which is against the law.

Hurst said this may take some time to repair but they are moving along as quickly as possible to provide this new facility so that they can be housed.

  1. Please proceed with all due possible haste because juveniles, regardless of their offense, should never be housed with adult offenders.
